Bharanikkavu Block Panchayath forks part of Alappuzha district. It lies in the south east part of the district and borders both Kollam and pathanamthitta districts. Topographically and geographically, it substantially differs from other block panchayaths in the district. This distinction can be seen in almost all aspects such as soil composition, mode of agriculture, the  area of dry land and wet land vegetation and distribution of arable land etc.  Its original inception as an NES block was way back in 1962. As an LSG, it came into being in 1995 as per the historic 72 nd and 73 rd constitutional amendments.  This block Panchayath comprises six grama panchayaths.  They are Bharanikkavu, Vallikunnam, Chunakkarara, Nooranad, Plalamel, and Thamarakulam.  The economic fabric of this block panchayath is mainly agrarian in nature.  The population distribution is somewhat even.  M
